Events Permit Specialist in the Events Permitting office with the City of Seattle. Sees event producers of all levels through the municipal permitting process, including answering inquiries, processing applications, coordinating with partner agencies, handling sensitive information with discretion, and issuing permits.
Cohost and co-founder of an independent events organization. Currently producing a dinner conversation series focused on building community in Seattle, WA.

BACHELOR’S ESSAY ABSTRACT

Excerpt from the abstract of “Crear una frontera queer: Cómo las autoras pioneras de temas queer y Chicana cruzan las expectaciones del género” by Alex Mielcarek:
En 1989-2002, las autoras Alicia Gaspar de Alba, Teri de la Peña, Emma Pérez, y Cristina Rivera Garza fueron las primeras quienes crearon personajes queer y Chicano en sus obras. La creación de narrativos sobre la experiencia queer y Chicano es algo que forzar nuevas historias dentro del paisaje literario e histórico. Como otras autoras de temas lesbianas y Chicanas, Gaspar de Alba sexualiza el cuerpo femenino para enfatizar la relación dentro de las mujeres sujetas y relaciona este deseo sexual con el peligro dentro los dos poemas, “Dark Morning Husband” y “La frontera”. De otro modo, de la Peña escribe su novela con el mensaje que la intersección de estas dos identidades no distrae de la importancia de las experiencias que influyen el otro. La obra de Pérez es diferente en que es una manera de recuperar con su trauma, pero también sirve como una viñeta a una experiencia de una persona Chicana y queer. La autora que es más diferente que las otras en este ensayo es Rivera Garza que no trata de temas queer de manera de nombrar actos homosexuales, pero cambia el género en algo queer en sí misma y, en el proceso, cruzar las fronteras de las expectativas. En total, cada obra de las autoras trata de temas queer y del género y, por eso, son pioneras en la literatura Chicana y queer. Cuando alguien escribe algo que no fuera escrito en la literatura y la historia tampoco, es una pionera del sujeto. Las estructuras que ponemos en la sociedad no están para tod@s, pero esto no significa que sus historias no deben ser contadas. Esta es lo que hacen las autoras Alicia Gaspar de Alba, Terri de la Peña, Emma Pérez, Cristina Rivera Garza y más que el largo del ensayo permite.
